CBI files charge sheet against Nalini Chidambaram in Saradha case

The CBI has filed a charge sheet against Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, alleging she had received ₹1.40000000 from Saradha group of companies, embroiled in a chit fund scam, officials said on January 11. It is alleged that she entered into a criminal conspiracy with Sudipta Sen, proprietor of Saradha group, and other accused with the intention of cheating and misappropriating funds of Saradha group of companies, CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal said in New Delhi. The CBI alleged that Manoranjana Sinh, estranged wife of former Union Minister Matang Sinh, introduced Mr. Sen to Ms. Nalini Chidambaram to manage investigation by agencies like SEBI, ROC against him and she allegedly received ₹1.40000000 during 2010-12 through his companies. The charge sheet was filed in a special court in Kolkata, Mr. Dayal said. The group had raised ₹2,5000000000 from people luring them with attractive interest rates, which were not repaid. Mr. Sen closed the operations of the company in 2013 after failing to pay returns. This is the sixth charge sheet in the Saradha scam case, which was handed over to the CBI by the Supreme Court in 2014.
