Special Court for SEBI cases
The Maharashtra Government has decided to set up a special court to try criminal cases initiated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, said that a sessions judge would preside over the court, the setting of which would speed up the trial of criminal cases now pending before different courts. He told reporters that the state Cabinet took the decision following a suggestion from the Mumbai High Court. The SEBI Special Court would cost the exchequer about Rs. 1200000 year. The judge will have a staff of eight persons to assist him in the trials. — Our Special Correspondent
